Storytime on the Roof

Childrens’ Independence Day Parade
July 4, 2019 @ 9:30 am to 11:30 am at Durham Central Park
Bring the whole family to Durham Central Park on the Fourth for our annual Childrens’ Parade! Decorate those bike, trikes, wagons and strollers all welcome at 9:30 a.m., with items from The Scrap Exchange. Our pavilion will be decorated with red, white and blue balloons. Then, parade through the park at 10:30. Following the parade there will be free popsicles and fire truck tours. DJ Pittipat will be spinning tunes.
40th Annual Festival for the Eno

Over 80 acts on 5 stages featuring the best contemporary and traditional entertainment from established and emerging artists. Over 80 juried craft artists, and fun and engaging hands-on activities for the entire family. 7th Annual 4th of July Ritual!

This is our 7th Annual 4th of July Ritual! Thursday, July 4 Few’s Ford, Eno River State Park Cole Mill Road access, Orange County gather at 1030am AT THE FORD. There are a few different ways to get to the Ford so plan ahead. We will be at the Ford from 1030-11am. We will talk the path a short ways for the ritual at 11am. If you miss us at the Ford, we will be located between the suspension bridge and the Ford, so you are welcome to come find us. Ritual briefing and then ritual, followed by brownbag lunch and swimming! Come join the Triangle Area Pagan Alliance for our 7th annual 4th of July ritual! We’ll engage in a light hike down the Eno River, find a nice spot, and give offerings and praise to our local spirits, ancestors, heroes, Gods and Goddesses, to the founders and framers, to the Mother and Father, to Fortuna America, and to others! This is a fun time to be outside and to be with others. Bring a brown bag lunch to enjoy after the ritual. Bring your own food , sunscreen, and bug spray.
Independence Day Celebration

Celebrate patriotism and civic pride with Durham Parks and Recreation, Durham Bulls, and USA Baseball! Attend the baseball game and enjoy a dynamic fireworks show following the game. Watch a USA Baseball Game at 6:05 p.m. and enjoy fireworks following the game at approximately 9:15 p.m. Tickets are required for the game, and are strongly encouraged for the fireworks show. Tickets are available on the Durham Bulls website or by calling 919-956-BULL. Gates will open for general admission at the end of the 7th inning based on availability for those that would like to view the fireworks show from inside the ballpark. Please note, viewing areas are limited outside of the ballpark. Purchasing tickets to the game is strongly encouraged and ensures a spot inside the Durham Bulls Athletic Park to watch the fireworks. Viewing sites outside of the ballpark include: The grassy area behind Diamond View 3, Burt’s Bees – outside of the North Deck, and Tobacco Road Sports Café.

Frederick Douglass Community Reading at Stagville

Commemorate Independence Day with a community reading of Frederick Douglass’ powerful Fourth of July address, “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July.” This is a participatory event, open to people of all ages! We will provide copies of the speech to all attendees, and read it out loud together as a community. Douglass delivered this powerful speech on July 5, 1852 at an Independence Day celebration: “The blessings in which you, this day, rejoice, are not enjoyed in common. The rich inheritance of justice, liberty, prosperity and independence, bequeathed by your fathers, is shared by you, not by me. The sunlight that brought light and healing to you, has brought stripes and death to me. This Fourth July is yours, not mine. You may rejoice, I must mourn…”
