3rd Friday in the Cameron Gallery
March 15 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Join us for the opening night of Embodiment – The Internal and External Conflict, Friday, March 15, 2019 from 6 – 9 pm. The solo exhibit features the work of local artist, Ashley Swindoll, a conceptual visual artist based in Hillsborough, NC. Swindoll’s work uses mixed media to create pieces that provoke her audience to reflect on emotional and mental wellness. “For myself, this series closely relates to the external and internal conflict one can experience when defining who they are. Socially, we are influenced to conform in ways that seem unnatural or forced. During these times of adversity, it can leave us worn and scarred in ways that don’t completely heal,” states the artist.
Originally from Oregon, she attended Oregon State University and completed a dual degree in sculpture/painting and art history. Swindoll has exhibited work Internationally for over 14 years and her artistic process combines digging into the emotional landscape that life experiences offer. Through mixed media and reused materials, she channels creativity in a way that provides powerful healing and aesthetically pleasing bodies of work. Her most recent project was Granted by the Downtown Durham Public Space Project. Swindoll used encaustic wax, metal, bulbs and musical instruments to create a massive sculpture installation between two buildings in downtown Durham.
An opening reception will be held on Friday, March 15th from 6-9PM. The evening’s festivities include light snacks and drinks,
as well as free art making in the Make and Take. This event is free and the public is warmly welcomed. The show runs
March 15th thru April 13th!
