Durham Historic Trolley Tour

Brown Hat Tours and Preservation Durham invite you on a historic trolley ride and poetic storytelling tour of Old Durham to learn about it’s people and the buildings and places where they lived, worked, and played. The tour follows the Durham’s historic streetcar line from near the old streetcar station in Downtown Durham, to the Lakewood Shopping Center, formally the Lakewood Amusement Park.

Stories of Stagville Women: Tour and Dialogue

Hear stories of enslaved women from Stagville, featuring their families, work, and resistance on one of the largest plantations in North Carolina. This tour features individual stories about Mary, Phoebe, Emma, and other enslaved women, pieced together from oral history and archival sources.
Tobacco Heritage Walking Tour

Preservation Durham offers free walking and bike tours that introduce downtown Durham’s history and architecture. All tours depart and return to the Durham Farmers’ Market at 501 Foster Street. Meet on the grassy area across from the entrance to the Farmer’s Market. Look for a sign on the grass. Preservation Durham’s enthusiastic and well-informed volunteer tour guides will lead you through the history of the tobacco industry as they tell many tales from Durham’s past, using oral histories and photographs to illustrate the history of tobacco and the people who supplied tobacco products known throughout the world.
