Gonza Tacos y Tequila founders, Gonza Salamanca and Carlos Rodriguez, announce their newest venture, Macondo Latin Cuisine, will be opening a second location in the Triangle. The new restaurant and bar will open atop Longfellow Real Estate Partners’ Durham.ID building located at 200 Morris Street.

Earlier this year, they announced the launch of their new concept at Sojourn Glenwood Place; That location is scheduled to open early 2020.

“When we conceptualized the Macondo brand, we knew we wanted to have a Durham location” says Rodriguez. The unique opportunity to launch the new concept in a modern rooftop, overlooking the West Village Gonza Tacos y Tequila, made the Durham.ID the perfect choice. “This location enables us to be part of both old and new Durham” says co-founder Gonza Salamanca. The Durham community has been wonderful to us, and we continue to make investments to support the region in return.”

Macondo will feature small tastes of distinctive Latin flavors that will rotate seasonally. The vision says Rodriguez “is a straightforward simple culinary driven menu but with high complexity.” To accomplish this, they have partnered with renowned Colombian Chef Santiago Macías, of the award-winning i Latina in Buenos Aires, as a menu consultant.

The Macondo bar will be a main feature in the restaurant, offering Latin inspired craft cocktails to further enhance the South American experience. Although both locations will have a modern Latin inspired interior, “each will have its own personality, and will be different experiences,” says Salamanca. “Like the mythical city, Macondo will be about Magical Realism, a special place between fantasy and reality, and unlike anything else.”

Macondo will join tenants of Durham.ID’s 200 and 300 Morris Buildings including Cherry Bekaert LLP, Spreedly, Duke Clinical Research Institute, WeWork, and Longfellow’s offices.

“We planned the rooftop restaurant space at Durham.ID with a standout concept like Macondo in mind,” says Jessica Brock, partner, Longfellow Real Estate Partners. “Once complete, Macondo will offer the most breathtaking views of our city, as well as a delicious full-service menu. This will truly be a gathering place for our entire community and visitors to the Bull City.”
