Now that summer (and its best friend, humidity) is officially here, we’re all about these local desserts in Durham for cold comfort.

LocoPops

Yep, they have baby size pops

You can’t go wrong with LocoPops. Gourmet frozen ice cream pops and water-based fruit pops in a variety of flavors. Everything from Mexican Chocolate to Mighty Mojito to Malted Maltball. Their pops are made with ingredients that are as fresh and local as they can get. They also offer ice cream. Our go to’s are strawberries & cream and cookies & cream. Classics done right. We also love that they have baby size pops. They recently moved right down the street and the new space is much larger. Bonus: There is a small kids play area!

Paleteria La Monarca Michoacana

ice cream durham nc

This place needs to top your list of places to visit soon. They serve up authentic Mexican paletas and ice cream.

There are SO MANY flavors, both simple and unusual. There’s everything from a pine nut ice pop to rice pudding to mamey sapote, a Mexican fruit that tastes of sweet potato and pumpkin. Everything is amazing quality and made with real fruit, etc.

Note: Google Maps directs you to the same plaza but the wrong location. Look for the Boost Mobile across from Compare Foods and Big Lots and you’ll find it.

Pincho Loco Ice Cream

A great little spot to satisfy your sweet tooth. You can find this shop tucked away right off 9th Street. It’s a ice cream and popsicle shop, with Native Latino Flavors: Tequila, Tiger Tail (Vanilla, Mexican Vanilla, and Chocolate), Guava, Tamarind and more. We love that they carry non-dairy options as well! Everything is reasonably priced. The popsicle is really filling for the under $3 price!

Rose’s Ice Cream Sandwiches

Rose’s

Be sure to get one of Rose’s ice cream sandwiches this summer! Prepared fresh daily. The flavors include everything from Vanilla Stracciatella to White Miso Gingersnap to Strawberries and Cream to Butter Pecan. The ice cream is SO COLD when you get it you can’t get bit into it, but it makes for a much more pleasant experience when it’s not melting all over you. Picture here is the strawberries and cream.

Pine Cone

Yes, my child could be a professional ice cream model

At Pine Cone, they serve the essentials: Maple View Farm ice cream and Joe Van Gogh coffee. That being the case, sometimes I’m here twice a day! AND you get 10% off with your Shop Durham card!

905, 20-H, W Main St, Durham, NC 27701

The Parlour

Small-batch, hand-crafted ice cream. We’re drooling just thinking about it! They have unique flavors that rotate to match the season, and they even have some vegan options. And not just any old vegan options, we’re talking award-winning vegan ice cream here. Salted butter caramel is a personal favorite!
